Politeness in Online Educational Discourse: Exploring Relational Work Strategies in Online Teacher-Student Interactions

The current study explores politeness in computer-mediated communication from the perspective of online educational discourse. Focusing on use language teacher-student interactions, we collect data that consist 117 naturally-occurring conversations three courses Dingtalk, one most popular platforms Mainland China. Data are analyzed using an adapted version theory and notion relational work. results show management work realization through certain strategies. preferred strategies employed by teachers students positive strategies, negative emoji preference for these indicates concerned about constructing considering their face. In addition to contributing existing literature communication, present offers practical implications do polite appropriate practices maintain education community.
